What kind of foods do you have:

- In your refrigerator?

- In your freezer?

- In your pantry?

How many of these items are:

- Heavily processed like boxed dinners, cereals etc?

- Fresh fruits and vegetables?

- Canned foods like soup, vegetables etc?

- Junk food like chips, cookies, crackers, artificially flavored etc?

If you answered more than 5 items in the heavily processed, canned, or junk areas, it's time for a KITCHEN SWEEP.

HOW TO SWEEP YOUR KITCHEN

1) Get a box for all of your canned and non-perishable boxed items. Donate these items to a local food pantry or someone else in need.

2) Take all of the frozen/boxed dinners, processed foods like chicken nuggets, other meat patties, and "sweet treats" like ice cream/ice cream sandwiches etc. and either consume them in 1-2 weeks (depending on quantity) or throw them out/give them to the neighbors.

DO NOT BUY THESE AGAIN UNTIL MUCH LATER DOWN THE ROAD.

RE-STOCK YOUR KITCHEN

1) Buy only fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein sources in small quantities. (Ex: enough for 3 to 5 days at a time).

2) Stay out of the center aisles of the grocery store! This is where most heavily processed items live! You MAY shop in the dried grains and beans sections.

3) Frozen vegetables and fruits are OK as long as they do not have any oils or sauces, added sugars, or other preservatives like MSG in them.

4) Fresh lean protein like ground turkey, grassfed beef, chicken breast, shrimp, and salmon can be bought in large quantities and then wrapped and frozen for later use.

5) Use only dried herbs and spices, sea salt, and cold-pressed virgin oils (sparingly).
