The Sugar Cookie Method

.

We all see these AMAZING-looking Social Media "Fit-fluencers" posting about their diets, workouts, and "top tips for getting lean fast". The internet is FULL of them, and it has become harder for general society to know who is credible and who is not.

.

This makes it TOUGH for highly trained industry professionals in the field that actually use REAL SCIENTIFIC METHODS to get their clients to participate in "The Process" of a Lifestyle Transformation.

.

.

Lifestyle Transformations are NOT FAST, they take TIME. And, if they ARE "Fast", be prepared for some really nasty re-coil once you stop.

.

.

The Sugar Cookie Method

This is a proven theory that I've been discussing for many years, with my clients and other like-minded industry professionals. It's not a secret, there's just never been a "crafty" name behind it other than "Cookie Cutter Plans". So, in true Coach Heather fashion, I wrote my own take on these plans and called it, "The Sugar Cookie Method" (be prepared for a book release in a year or 5 - - HAHA!). If you ask any professional what the term "Cookie Cutter" means, be prepared for some eye rolls and grunts. WE. HATE. THEM.

.

Here's "MY" take on WHY these plans are just plain NO BUENO long-term:

1. They are based on "average idiot science". This means they will take glorified credit when you lose 7lbs. your first week after cutting out the C.R.A.P. (Carbonated drinks, Refined sugar, Artificial Sweeteners & Alcohol, Processed foods.) in your diet, and BLAST IT all over social media with bold claims like "THIS PROGRAM WORKS FAST! Suzie lost 7lbs her FIRST WEEK on MY PLAN! Get yours NOW!"....... :-| :-| :-| :-|

Sound ANNOYINGLY familiar?

** SIDE NOTE: Tagging clients on social media in a post like this to ENCOURAGE them to keep going on their program is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOPIC. I totally am 100% in support of this. It's when they include the last sentence of "this program works fast" is the part that makes me want to throw things.

.

2. The plans are based on the same calorie and macro-nutrient ranges for men AND women. I think this point speaks for itself.. A 6ft 220lb male and a 5ft 150lb female require VERY DIFFERENT caloric needs. D U H. It may work for the first few months, but eventually SOMEONE is going to start GAINING weight.

.

3. The "Meal Plan" is boring and impersonal. Almost all of these plans come with an "Eating Schedule" and a structured "Meal Plan" : Eat 4oz of chicken or White fish for 3 meals per day with 3 cups of broccoli and have a protein shake twice per day as a snack from 9am to 9pm.

BLAH.. BLAH.. BORING. Also, not realistic long-term as you MIGHT grow feathers from eating so much chicken. (Joking, but you could end up feeling that way!)

This is why we call it "Cookie Cutter", because they assume that everyone looking to lose weight have the SAME problems. (Assuming that they are all derived from the same "batch of dough").

.

4. They take ZERO time learning about the client. Investing the time to take a look at someone's Lifestyle can make a TREMENDOUS difference in their success. Most of these "coaches" do NOT do this just because of the time and effort it takes, AND the fact that their demand is higher than humanly possible for one person to keep up with. (Some of those online coaching programs get 1,000 downloads per month!)

.

5. Cash-Cow Cop-Out. Easy Money TALKS. Speculating a little more on the previous point in parentheses: 1,000 downloads per month of these GENERIC diet plans from people looking for a quick and mindless "solution" to their problem. It is a "REALLY SMART" business model if all you're looking to do is make money. On average let's say a generic plan is $29.99, let's use the 1,000 downloads per month statistic... that's a staggering $29,990 PER MONTH. That is literally HALF of the average person's salary PER YEAR.

.

As a Professional that still has integrity-based morals, I consider this criminal. And Disgusting.

.

6. There is absolutely NO individual focus OR support.

I hear this from clients who come to see me time and time again who've hired coaches in a different state (or country, even), that have paid premium for a mediocre plan and get little to no coaching support. They receive a generically scripted email once a week that is sent out to a mailing list of clients on their program about tips and tricks for the week, but the coaches are rarely ever available for that one-on-one connection with the client.

This is a recipe for motivation DISASTER, frustration and failure for the client. But to the "Coach" it doesn't matter, because they've already been paid.

.

7. These plans teach you VERY LITTLE to NOTHING about balancing your nutrition & activity. Sending clients a weekly menu or meal plan does nothing for educating them on how to make their OWN meals and snacks according to what they want to consume.

I am a supporter of the Flexible Dieting method, which basically teaches the client that they CAN consume otherwise considered "taboo" food items while "dieting", BUT they must be accountable (log it) for their consumption and UNDERSTAND how that translates in their body in terms of calorie expenditure and metabolic processing.

Most people count calories WITHOUT understanding macro-nutrient percentages, and to me. this is like mopping a sidewalk in the rain: P O I N T L E S S.

.

THE FLIP SIDE...

So, let's take these "online coaches" out of the hot seat for a second and talk about

THE CLIENTS.

In the industry's defense, the general population would rather invest MONEY vs. TIME to get results.

.

It is a known fact that MOST people in our society DO NOT CARE to learn about the science behind Nutrition & Fitness to reach their goals, they just want to be TOLD WHAT TO DO to fix the problem, looking for that quick fix for months or years of repetitive poor lifestyle choices.

.

As a STARTING point for intervention, this method can be very HELPFUL to the client, creating a less overwhelming experience and promote a higher level of sustaining motivation. As a LONG-TERM solution, it absolutely sucks.

.

It all starts with doing something UNCOMFORTABLE, and admitting that YOUR HABITS CAUSED YOUR ISSUES. It's like ripping off a band-aid.. it hurts for a short while, but then feels better with time.

.

With the right coaching support, you can make this an enlightening and refreshing process.

.

If you DON'T take the time to learn about your metabolism and HOW nutrition, exercise and your lifestyle habits have an effect on it, you:

- Will ALWAYS be paying someone to TELL YOU WHAT TO DO instead of being able to writing your OWN plan.

.

So, the MORAL of the "Sugar Cookie Method" story IS...

LEARN how to work with your OWN DOUGH RECIPE to have LONG-TERM success. Don't take a "generic recipe" based on the average statistic "dough", the results will not be the same for you.

.

To better understand YOUR BODY, you have to SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE.

My staff and I are ALL ABOUT helping you communicate with your body!

.

If you're ready to start designing your OWN batch of sugar cookies, book an appointment :-).
